This is 70g Bonito Flakes, 70g MSG, 70g Salt.

It's a mixture I've made for use in fishing scents…. But I kind of want to cook with it. Any ideas?

Put it in rice. Put it in bread. Marinade steaks with it. Fry mushrooms and dust them w it. Add it to soysauce. Add it to hotsauce. Cure w it.

I run a 50/50 (by weight) bonito and salt mix in my ramen, and add msg separately so… ramen. I think it would also be dope in shrimp gyoza, etc.

Wanna know how it tastes on cooked stuff?

Throw a buttered toast in the pan and sprinkle that shit on it.

Mellow it out with more Bonito Flakes until you get the salt/msg content you want? It’ll be a big batch, but it wouldn’t go bad.

This would be pretty rad on some potato chips

Shake it up in a bag of unseasoned potato chips. You’ve made Japanese chip crack. Throw in some shichimi for extra flavor.

Add some powdered chili to it, use it for a Michelada rim…

You made it for fishing purposes? How do you use it?

Popcorn, duck fat, truffle butter, this spice. I just wonder if that would be okay. I know it’s not really cooking with it but I bet it would make great popcorn.

  14. Japanese furikake (rice seasoning) is basically bonito, msg, chicken stock powder, toasted sesame seeds, and shredded nori. So sprinkle it on top of some steamed rice. Maybe add some chives.

I was told there would always be chives.

These aren’t bonito flakes any more. You might as well use it for setting powder

Vac pack it, stick it in an envelope and I’ll send you my address. 😁
